Parents are the role models of their children. At any stage of life, a child needs their parents’ emotional and physical support to face all life challenges. This movie was written and directed by Assaf Bernestine. At the start, it was named Behind the Mirror, but in 2018, it was released under the name Look Away in Canada. The movie was edited by Danny Rafic and was released on 12 October 2018. India Eisley played the characters of Maria and Airam. Its running time is 103 minutes.
Who Is Maria?
Maria is an 18-year-old Timid high school girl. Due to her introverted personality and lack of proper attention from her parents, she always stays away from the students in her class. Mark is a boy in Maria’s class who constantly bullies her.
Lilly is Maria’s best friend. She always tries to make Maria happy and smile, but Maria is never pleased with her jokes. Maria likes Lily’s boyfriend, who is always jealous of her.
Maria thinks no one wants to talk to her and goes into depression. Due to depression, she was not able to eat the food properly, and day by day, Maria lost her weight.
In her room, she screamed because she wanted her parents to listen to her. But no one cared. Her father, Mr. Dan, is a plastic surgeon, and her mother, Amy, is a housewife. Her father likes perfection, so he is very strict with Maria.
Who is Airam?
When Maria is crying in front of the Mirror in her bathroom, she sees her reflection in the Mirror. At the start, she gets terrified from her reflection. Maria wants to tell her parents about the reflection, but they disregard it.
Over time, Maria sees that her reflection is more beautiful, bold, and confident than she is. She names her Airam, the reverse of Maria. Airam listens to Maria and understands her. Maria thought at least there was someone in this world who listened to her and understood her. She wants to fulfil all her dreams and tell Airam. Airam tells her the ways through which she can fulfil her dreams, but all methods are violent. Maria does not want to hurt anyone for her desires.
Why did Maria Switch With her Mirror Reflection Airam?
When Maria gets ready for the ice-winter prom, her dad calls her to come to his clinic. Maria thought that her dad would give her an advance birthday present in the form of a car. She would not go to school on the bus with all these sick people. But when she arrived at the clinic, Mr Dan, her dad, asked her if he wanted to do plastic surgery on her lips, nose, and cheeks to make them look perfect because he likes perfection.
It makes Maria very sad that her dad does not love her; he only wants her to look perfect. Does she need to look perfect to get her dad’s love?
At the ice prom, Maria did not know how to skate ice. Lilly taught her, but Maria fell while skating. Lilly does not help her and taunts Maria.
Sean Lilly’s boyfriend is a kind-hearted guy who always helps Maria. Sean helps Maria to come out. During prom, Mark also bullies her very badly in front of everyone.
After being humiliated too much, Maria went to the bathroom and cried in front of Airam. Now, she wants to take revenge and switch places with Airam.
After Switching Place:
As their palms and lips touch, both Maria and Airam switch their places. Airam came into the real world, and she said Maria, everyone has to pay back for their sins.
Aram seduced Mark and took him to shower, breaking his knee. Now Maria (Airam) looks more confident and happy in school. She talks to her parents and eats appropriately. Her mother, Miss Amy, is so pleased that her girl is now fine and eating her food properly.
Lilly’s Death:
Airam works hard and practices to learn ice skating. One day, she asked Lilly to come and teach her Ice skating, and Lilly agreed. But Lilly sees Airam as perfect for ice skating. Both of them were skating when Lilly slipped and fell on Tarma, crushing her skill.
Airam called the police in tears. During the investigation, cops find that Lilly was an ice skating champion when she fell. They find that Airam is involved in her death and start following her.
Sean Death:
After Lilly’s death, Airam went to Sean’s house and expressed her feelings for him. They start their intense relationship. Both of them bunk school to spend time with each other. One day, they go to the hotel to intimate, then Sean receives a phone call from the police. Police want to meet both of them for Lilly’s case. Airam refuses to go, which makes Sean doubtful. In the next second, Airam attacks Sean with a vodka bottle on his head.
- Dan Death:
Some days ago, Airam called her mother and her father’s mistress simultaneously at the clinic. She wants her mother to face that lady and tell her father that she knows about his affairs. But Amy did not react. After reaching home, Airam misbehaves with her mother that it is her fault that she knows everything but does not speak up for herself. In the whole conversation, Amy slapped Airam, but it made her happy that Amy was at least now thinking of taking a stand.
After a few hours of killing, Sean Airam went to Dan’s clinic. Asked him if he would love her if she were deformed. Dan was shocked by her question and said yes. In the next moment, she cut his throat with a scalpel and cried you were lying. Why would you not love me?
Airam No Longer See Maria:
After murdering her father, she went back home but did not see Maria in the Mirror. She felt alone and frightened. Airam crawled to Amy’s bed and lay down with her by hugging her. At the end of the movie, a burst shows two girls lying down with Amy, and Amy is smiling. Because she knew all things earlier and became happy, her daughter took revenge on everyone.
Why Did Maria See Her Mirror Reflection Airam?
At the start of the movie, they show the sonography of a woman with two children. One child is looking to take on the second one. It was Amy’s monograph when she gave birth to two twin girls. Maria was physically fine, but the other girl was deformed. Dan, who, like perfection, buried her second daughter alive in front of her house without Amy’s permission.
Maria thinks that the mirror reflection is her twin daughter, but these are her incomplete desires, the personality she wants.
Final Verdict:
It is a movie about the story of Maira, who faces bullies in and out of the house. She wants to share her problems with her parents, but her poor mom is suffering from depression due to the medicines given by her dad. Her dad is a plastic surgeon in the light of the day and a cheater and spoiled father in the dark of night.
Due to his strictness and negligence of her mother, she saw a mirror reflection and found another personality. But in actuality, it was her incomplete desires and personality hidden in her unconscious mind.
In this movie, they play the twin theory. As we know, twins can share their feelings and spiritual links. Her sister’s soul wanted to take revenge on her father and everyone who made Maria sad. She wants to protect Maria from future actions.
