Very few writers excite as much attention about the British royal house as Omid Scobie. Scobie has become known for his detailed coverage of the royal household. He investigates the complexity of palace political issues in his recently released book, Endgame. 

However, the Dutch edition of the book sparked greater controversy than the English one. Because, the Dutch version exposed two important royals in a previously secret dispute, which was an unexpected turn of events. Who is Omid Scobie?

British reporter and novelist Omid Scobie was born on July 4, 1981, in Wales. Scobie was brought up in Oxford with his parents, a Scottish advertising manager and an Iranian social service worker mother, as well as his younger sibling. 

He became most famous for collaborating on the book Finding Freedom along with the book Endgame. The British royal family is the primary focus of Scobie's writing. 

After completing Oxford's respected Magdalen College School, he moved on to Oxford's Cherwell School for his sixth-grade education. He then later enrolled at the London College of Communication for training in journalism.

What Happened in the Dutch Edition of Omid Scobie’s Book?

When the Dutch edition of Endgame published on November 21, 2023, included names not found in its English original, it triggered a media storm. 

The Dutch editor claims to have mistakenly disclosed secret details related to two well-known monarchs, whereas the English edition kept secrecy.

Rumors state that King Charles III and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were cited in the Dutch version concerning a racial disagreement. 

Who Did Omid Scobie Name In Dutch Book?

Omid Scobie claimed he had no idea how King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, ended up featured in a Dutch edition of Endgame. 

Omid Scobie himself pointed out that those names in doubt weren't mentioned in the work that he presented. He added that he wasn't familiar with the Dutch version and that he could not even communicate in Dutch.

It looks like a linguistic issue or an error during the process of printing generated the confusion. The chosen names of two individuals in one version were not a planned marketing trick.  

While admitting their error, the Dutch owner explained that the negligence occurred because the first translated version of the book had never been properly edited or submitted to a legal investigation.

Now, the publishers are reprinting a revised edition of the publication when it had been removed from the stores.

Concluding Remarks

Accidentally disclosing names, the Dutch version of Omid Scobie's Endgame offered an extremely difficult story a new level of suspense. Even if Scobie rejects his part in the truth, the situation is an example of his challenges when dealing with sensitive topics.

The Dutch authors of the book responded to the royals' name as a "mistake" and stated that a "corrected edition" would become available again in December. Anybody who has a copy of Endgame which is not in English must begin to read it right away.
